Joie, Ananda, Larry

Joie and Larry 2009

Larry Reavis, President

Larry Dominus Reavis renovated his first building in 1962. He began doing home inspections when, after receiving his Ph.D. (Ohio State, 1967), he and the Director of Southern Methodist University’s Institute of Urban Studies signed a contract with the Dallas Dept. of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation to design and direct a survey of 10,000 Dallas homes. After eight years at SMU, he began renovating houses full-time in the mid-1970s. Formerly licensed as a master electrician, master plumber, and Class-A building contractor (Virginia licenses), he has taught many training seminars for home inspectors. He also has produced articles, books, software, videos and CD-ROMs for the profession.

EARLY INTEREST IN HOUSES

LReavis on roof - age 5

Just after his fifth birthday, a major wind passed through his family’s town. When he heard the postman say that the wind took off the roof of a house not far away, he pestered his parents to see it with such vigor that they finally gave in (see photograph).

INTEREST IN ELECTRONICS

His interest in electronics began at age 10 when an uncle gave him a crystal set kit. By age 13 he had passed the license test to become a “ham” radio operator. From his teens through his early 30s he built more than 40 transmitters (about half of which he designed himself), in addition to single-sideband exciters, receivers, and other equipment. Beginning with his second year of college and continuing for a few years after graduate school, he designed and built apparatus for research in psychology at four institutions of higher learning. In recent years, he designed and built logic circuits for automating factory machinery.

Joie Dominus Reavis , Administrator, with a B.A. in English literature and pre-med, was accepted into medical school in 1977. Fortunately for Homexam she decided not to pursue medicine. She also has a certificate in secondary education.

Ananda Dominique Reavis , Assistant to the Administrator, is useful useful useful! (it used to read “as a teenager can get” but she complained so much; anyway, now she's an old lady - not a teenager). She was accepting responsibility for an increasing portion of the Homexam workload, and still helps even though employed full-time in big, bad Los Angeles - with a title of Producer for a video/film post-production company. She graduated from UCLA in 2003.

Also, Cari Xochitl Reavis-Geis (with a degree in computer science) and Martin Netzahualcoyotal Reavis (with a degree in engineering) provide assistance as needed (Martin, owner of Cancun Markets furniture stores in Dallas, owns a warehouse from which we often ship books).
