New! Additional Homexam Inspection Video (#4), with commentary here.

Free 1-hour sample training movie - electrical testers movie #5
(please forgive the slightly fuzzy and jerky image - the image quality
of the movies on the CDs is far superior):
  <
Overview of Homexam training for those who want to become home inspectors:

Homexam training is anchored in movies. Movies are better than lectures, for they have abundant animations in addition to live video, they are better organized, and edited (with very few "Let me restate that" or other goofs). And with CDs, you can watch them again and again. When done, you can sell them on eBay. Just try that with a seminar!

California residents must pay sales tax of  7.75%.  If you live in California, please phone us at 800-654-4511 instead of using PayPal.  All packages are shipped by U.S. Priority Mail to any location within the United States for $10 shipping and handling.

complete training package

Homexam’s home complete inspector training package with movies:
Suitable for those with limited hands-on experience and for contractors, renovators, and others who have had considerable experience and prefer the benefit of watching the movies, this is our complete training package. This complete training package also is recommended to inspectors whose only training consists of a hands-on course of less than 6 weeks. The movies run about 46 hours. The total training time that will be required before you become a competent inspector is several times as great. Obviously, those who have had a lot of experience will be able to complete this course in less time than those who are new to residential construction and inspection. This is a rigorous course for those who intend to provide superior service for their customers - and avoid lawsuits. This course is approved by ASHI
® for 128 Membership Renewal Credits; and by NACHI® for Continuing Education Credits (see below, and contact Homexam for details).

This package includes the following:
• Homexam’s The User-Friendly Home (small print monochrome, plus large-print color .PDF file)
Tips and Testers for Home Inspectors
Workshop CD
Bargain Bundle CD
7-Movie CD
e-report Sample CD
Great Inspectors Movies
Homexam Inspection Movies, with Commentary
Electrical Testers Movies
Heating, AC, Ventilation (HVAC) Movies
Structure Movies

Details for each of the above

Homexam’s flagship book, The User-Friendly Home, is used as a textbook by many
organizations that train home inspectors. After Oregon required inspectors to pass
a test, one inspector (Wayne Hueppelsheuser) kindly faxed Homexam a copy of
a list of recommended texts he received from the testing officials, with their
handwritten note “Wayne, buy this one & pass,” with an arrow pointing to Homexam's
User-Friendly Home
). He also told us it was the best book he bought. Similarly, John
Russell told us “I spent a bundle, but The User-Friendly Home was by far the best.” And
Ron Millstein of the Building Tech Bookstore told us he considers The User-Friendly Home
to be the best book for training home inspectors. Many inspectors have told us they
learned more from the book than from training programs that cost thousands of dollars.

Here’s what the experts say (these are unsolicited comments – Homexam does not solicit endorsements):

“I am truly thrilled . . . If there is one book that I would recommend to students, to
homebuyers . . . without any doubt it would be the Homexam book.”
–Joseph Scaduto,
author and founder of the Society of Real Estate Professionals (SPREI has included a number of
articles taken from Homexam materials for their training manuals).
“I never imagined I’d use any text material except my own.” –Bill Ball, instructor, author
and founder of the American Institute of Inspectors.
“No one is even close . . . you are marketing the long run with a solid and specific data
bank of information . . .”
—Sam Wood, Professional Engineer, instructor, foundation expert, and
home inspector, Charleston, W.VA.
“It knocked my socks off” –John Barber, former home inspector, Vashon Island, Washington.

Tips has information on electrical testers and moisture meters, marketing suggestions, and an abundance of other material that is not available elsewhere.

Workshop CD has a 150-page file of 500+ questions and answers, many with commentaries. It is a mini home inspection course in its own right, and almost all questions include references to the books included in this package or to documents that are readily available on the web. These items are similar to those found on various certification tests (Homexam wrote the original certification exam for the National Association of Home Inspectors; none of those questions is included herein).

Bargain Bundle CD has flyers that you can print and use for marketing your services, the electronic version of Homexam’s User-Friendly Home, etc.

6-Movie CD includes a variety of movies that are useful to home inspectors.
Homexam’s Ezguide reporting software also can be installed from this CD. This is a complete reporting system that works in Microsoft Word, and is not time-limited, nor is it a dumbed-down demo. Jay Markanich, of Bristow, Va., says, “I create narrative reports in 15 minutes with Homexam’s Ezguide.” A couple of movies explaining how to use Ezguide are included.
This CD also has movies that explain how to avoid lawsuits, and info/commercial movies regarding other products available from Homexam.
Finally, you can print the paper-and-pen reporting forms found on this disk and use them for creating inspection reports – for those who don’t want to use a computer to create on-site reports.

e-Report Sample CD has several instructional movies for creating and editing websites; how to download and use free image editing software; how to use videos for home inspections; Open Office installation files for those who do not have Microsoft Office; and other goodies.

• Great Inspectors Movies shows 6 inspections performed by 5 great inspectors. Over 12 hours of full-motion video on 10 CDs.

• Homexam Inspection Movies, with Commentary provide 11 hours of full-motion video, with in-depth explanations of  the inspector's procedures and comments.

• Electrical Testers Moviesexplain when and how to use electrical testers. Almost 5 hours, 6 CDs. This module alone has been approved for 25 credit-hours by The National Association of Home Inspectors and the State of New Jersey.

• Heating, AC, and Ventilation Movies explain the technical details and inspection procedures for furnaces, boilers, gas- and oil-fueled burners, and air conditioners, with a brief discussion of energy efficiency. About 7 hours on 4 CDs.

• Structure, With Sam Wood, PE shows how a true expert engineer examines foundations and structures. About 6 hours on 5 CDs.

Bonus items

• Free e-report CDs: If you are a home inspector, you may qualify for a free set of 16 e-report CDs if you agree to give them to your inspection customers. These will be personalized for you with your face, logo, and company name printed on the disc. Pre-burned with Homexam’s User-Friendly Home, they are to be burned again on site with your report. Or they could be given to referral sources, such as real estate agents, attorneys, etc.

Requirements

You must have Word 2000 or later in order to use Homexam’s Ezguide reporting software. In order to watch the movies, you must have Windows Media Player 9 or later (a free download) running on a 700 mHz or faster computer (almost all computers built since 2001 are faster). In order to read the rather fine print of the paper edition of Homexam’s User-Friendly Home, you must have good eyesight (you can use the electronic version if you need larger print).

Certification

Homexam offers a certification exam for $50 (see details and PayPal button below). In addition to the credits from inspectors' associations mentioned above, some states may require such a certificate as part of their licensing process; and some insurance companies may offer a discount on the errors-and-omissions insurance if you take this course and get the certificate. If your insurance company or other organization requires a proctored exam, please contact the staff of your local library and we'll send the exam to them. Homexam's certification exam is available only to those who have purchased our complete training package.

Disclaimer

This training bundle will not inform you of business requirements in your community (check with your city hall and county courthouse). Nor can we guarantee that you’ll pass any certification exam given by Homexam or others. Obviously, we also cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to attract enough business to create a viable business.

Some states and some individual municipalities or counties now require licensing, and a few require training by an approved school (you can get more info here). In addition, most communities require a business license or registration for any type of business. We recommend that you contact local authorities, an accountant, and a local attorney for help in setting up your business, and especially before using the sample inspection contract found in our Tips book.

Hands-on experience is needed: We also urge you to conduct a number of mock inspections for family, friends, and neighbors after you complete this course. In addition, Candidates of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI®) are elligible to participate in ASHI's Parallel Inspections training program in which experienced inspectors lead students who conduct fee-paid inspections (some inspectors charge students for this service). Such training is highly recommended, and this course will enable you to benefit from such training.

Why so inexpensive?

If this training package is so good, why don’t we charge more? Because we hope that you’ll give one of our books or e-report CDs to each of your inspection customers. You are under no obligation to do so, but providing the extra service of giving an in-depth explanation for each item on the report probably will help you earn the trust of your customers, thus reducing the risk of a lawsuit.

This is a rigorous course and will require many hours of study. It  is intended for inspectors who want superior training and who intend to provide superior service to their customers.
The Workshop CD also includes a workbook that automatically will be copied to your hard disk so that you can make notes as you study.
Note: Homexam wrote the original exam for the National Association of Home Inspectors. Although none of those questions appear in the Workshop CD, the questions that we created for this CD are similar in style to those use by certification and licensing exams everywhere.
